"Disrupted Realism: Paintings for a Distracted World"
A new publication by John Seed, with essays by
John Seed and Katherine Stanek
is now available for purchase at Barnes & Noble, Amazon
and other booksellers
It includes several of my paintings with an interview
and work and interviews by over 40 contemporary artists

"Disrupted Realism is the first book to survey the works of contemporary painters who are challenging and reshaping the tradition of Realism. Helping art lovers, collectors, and artists approach and understand this compelling new phenomenon, it includes the works of 38 artists whose paintings respond to the subjectivity and disruptions of modern experience. Widely published author and blogger John Seed, who believes that we are “the most distracted society in the history of the world,” has selected artists he sees as visionaries in this developing movement. The artists’ impulses toward disruption are as individual as the artists themselves, but all share the need to include perception and emotion in their artistic process".

"Crossroads" is currently down in Milledgeville, GA as part of an exhibit honoring the work of Flannery O'Connor.  The painting was initially inspired by the street protests: the "die-ins", after the continued episodes of police violence against black men.   As I read O'Connor's "Wiseblood", it evolved into being a work about the spiritual and physical struggle for justice  and faith that happens outside the law, on the streets.
The show, The Light By Which We See, at  Andalusia Farm, Flannery O'Connor House and Museum, will continue until April 3, 2016

I was honored to have been interviewed by Marsal Nazary on her blog:
Read Part I, Interview with Karen Kaapcke
Read Part II, here
in which I discuss what Experiential Realism means, my thoughts on Freedom and Truth in art, and more

"Heightened Perceptions"
                 curated by:  John Seed
My painting "SG" (left) is included in the publication of this collection of work unified by the theme of work done using imagination and broad perception.
The paintings in Heightened Perceptions, chosen by juror John Seed, dance across many familiar "isms," from Photorealism on down the line towards abstraction, defying stylistic categorization. This curated issue of "Poets and Artists" contains works by fifty painters, all of whom take their subject matter into the realms of imaginative perception. The images are arranged thematically, starting with a section titled The City in honor of Jim Doolin. Four other themed sections-Human Presence, Interiors and Objects, Towards Abstraction and Into the Landscape-follow.
